FOOTBALL PLAYERS: do you think cheerleading is a sport? or as hard as football?

This is just a question for all past or present football players. Do you think that cheerleading is a sport, or that it is as hard as football? Also, questions for football playesr::
1. Do you like the cheerleaders? (like as girlfriends)
2. Do older guys (seniors, juniors, etc.) think that when freshmen have them as their football player, that their weird and young? lol
3. Do the football players pay attention to the cheerleaders at football games?
4. Do you think the cheerleaders are annoying at games, or do you value that they come out every friday or saturday to support you?
5. When you were playing a game, have you even kept the play going too far, where you ran or crashed into all of the cheerleaders?

A few questions for just football fans::
1. Do you think the cheerleaders are annyoying?
2. Do you really watch and pay attention to the cheerleaders?
3. Can you tell when cheerleaders mess up on the field from the bleachers?

Let me give you a few reasons as to why it is a sport::
1. Cheerleaders, unlike football players, are living over 100 pounds up in the air (stunting) and then have to throw them up, and then make sure they catch them with just their arms. Holding over 100 pounds (most of the time) up in the air, let me mention, OVER your head (like your arms are extended up as much as possible) is extreamly hard!
2. Cheerleaders, like football players, actually have to run laps and do conditioning after practice. We have to do the same crunches, wall sits, planks, push ups, etc. etc. as the football players do for their workout!
3. Like football players, we are dedicated to our sport of cheerleading. We attend every football game, like the players do, and cheer as much as we can for our team!

THANK YOU if you read everything about and answered this question! I am going to post this in a few different sections, so it might be seen more than once! sorry!

  1. I think that these questions are just going to annoy and make some people angry. OF COURSE the football players arent paying attention the cheerleaders. that is not what they are supposed to do. they're supposed to keep focused on the game so they do the right thing and nobody gets hurt. It is very distracting because not only are they supposed to do this, they also have to tune out the crowd AND the cheerleaders yelling. they have to have complete concentration.
As a former cheerleader ( i cheered for football and basketball throughout high school) I can agree with you and say that cheerleading is hard. We worked hard, sweat a lot AND had to work hard to gain/keep respect from people who thought we were brainless floozies. I do not agree with you when you say it is a sport though. We had to stay fit, get good grades and be good examples, but lets face it, football players have to put on pads and pound of uniforms in the extreme heat, us cheerleaders, could take off our undersuits or sweaters if we needed to, the football players arent allowed to take off their uniforms. Us cheerleaders… yeah we had to lift over 100 pounds of weight over our heads and keep them there safe, but the football players have to push 300 pounds of sweaty man back several yards. Is cheerleading a sport? That is a contreversial question. Cheerleading has come a long way since way back when, but i dont think this question will ever be resolved. Football and cheerleading are both extemely hard. In different ways though. i think that the amount of respect I have for football players is huge, and its a pity that sometimes FB players do not return the respect. I could go on about this forever. but I wont.

It is obvious by some of these answers that the people asking the question and some of the answerers… do not talk to or hang out with football players on a regular basis. Any football player would say that cheerleaders do NOT work as hard as FBplayers. It is a fact. Just because we do a couple of sit ups and crunches and run with them, does not mean in the long run that we are the same as them athetically.

  2. yes. I think it is just as hard. I was in cheerleading, and I watch my brother’s games. He does like them, but that’s all i know about his opinion. He thinks most of them are hot… No, i cant really tell when they mess up from the bleachers, except for when it is a TOTAL screw-up, or when they get that look on their face, or when they shout the wrong word really loud, when you hear everyone else shout the right one… well, yeeah

  3. ok i am a girl and a cheer leader so not a football player and i love going to cheer for my team. i love it as much as you probably do. and i agree cheer leading is a sport. When we have to practice running cunches ect. we have to do it with the football players so we r all on the grass together and we also run with them. when they practice the game we practice lifting and all that stuff so the r right there wating us. and we r wating them…so cheer leading is a sport…sorry boys it is not all fun and games!!!

  4. It depends on which type of Cheerleading you mean. Competetive Cheerleading is a sport. It involves flips and hurling people through the air and stuff. Just plain Cheerleading (clapping, shouting, dancing, etc…) is not a sport, any monkey could be taught to do that.

None of the schools I went to had Competetive cheerleading so I more consider it to be not a sport. But that stuff they have on TV that some schools do… is a sport.

    Answers to the fan questions.

    1. Sometimes I find Cheerleaders to be annoying.
    2. I try to ignore them, I’m a fan of FOOTBALL not cheerleading.
    3. Often times I can unless they are really good at it and can cover it up.

    Feedback to your Reasons
    1. Are you claiming cheerleading is harder than football? If so I totally disagree.
    2. Not all cheerleaders do this, only the ones who do Competetive type Cheerleading. None of the ones at my schools ever did.
    3. Band members attend each game too, and root for the team. Would you consider marching band a sport? Probably not. (I was in the band, I think that is harder than cheerleading. So I guess perspective is everything isn’t it.)

  5. yes

  6. I run girl’s cross country. And we run by our cheerleaders all the time. They don’t really work out. Maybe that’s just our school. But, it’s hard for me to respect it seeing what I’ve seen.
I don’t play football so I’ll answer the fan questions:
    1. YES. I don’t care about their sleazy uniforms and crappy routines. I want to see the game, not their cleavage.
    2. I could really care less about the cheerleaders at the game.
    3. You actually can. It’s really obvious when a girl doesn’t know what she’s doing.

And for your reasons its a sport:
    1. You cannot compare the workouts you do as a cheerleader to the football workouts. I’m not saying it doesn’t take skill; I couldn’t do it. The guys football players are tackling are like three times your size. So that’s harder..
    2. See #1. Don’t get me started on laps. I run like 10 miles a day. Shut up, a few laps isn’t that bad. Yeah, take the amount of conditioning you do like times 100 and double the hardness. That’s what football players do lol. Not literally, but honestly they’re doing WAY more than you.
    3. You want a parade? You should be dedicated. That’s kind of expected.

  7. i think cheerleading is somewhat hard, but the cheerleaders at my school aren’t that good! i was going to join cheer but they all suck so i joined tennis and i am very happy i did that. cheer did a routine at the welcome back assembly and i could tell when they messed up and my friend looked super nervous when they lifter her(don’t blame her) but they weren’t too peppy. they can be kind of annoying.
